Avranches
Avranches is just a half-hour drive from Gîte La Cour de Haut. Stroll through the historic center, visit the Jardin des Plantes, and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel. If you visit the city on a Saturday, you can also catch the lively weekly market.
Avranches
Avranches is a charming city that you can easily explore on foot. Thanks to its location on a hill, the city offers beautiful views over the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel. The compact center makes Avranches an ideal destination for a relaxing morning or afternoon.
We recommend parking at the Tourist Office , right in the center. From there, it is about a seven-minute walk to the Jardin des Plantes , a botanical garden built on the former fortifications. From the panoramic terrace, you have a magnificent view of the bay and, on a clear day, of Mont Saint-Michel.
After your visit to the garden, walk back towards the center. Near the Tourist Office lie the remains of the old city fortress, which are also worth a visit. From the former fortress, you once again have a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
If you visit Avranches on a Saturday, you can perfectly combine the walk with the lively weekly market held at the foot of the old fortress. Here you will find regional products, vegetables, cheeses, and other Norman specialties. Conclude your visit in the shopping street or on one of the cozy terraces in the center.
Are you interested in history? Then the Scriptorial , the museum with the medieval manuscripts of Mont Saint-Michel, is also worth a visit.
