Villedieu-les-Poêles
Located about a 30-minute drive from La Cour de Haut is Villedieu-les-Poêles, a charming town with a long history of artisanal copperworking. Copper pans, kettles, and other utensils have been made here since the Middle Ages. You can still see how this traditional craftsmanship is practiced in various workshops.
The historic center is compact, making it ideal to explore on foot. Stroll through the narrow streets with half-timbered houses, visit the cozy squares and take a seat on one of the terraces, or visit the copper workshop . Also, don't forget the old washhouse (lavoir) down by the river, a beautiful piece of local heritage showing how laundry was done communally in the past.
Are you in the area on Tuesday? Then the weekly market is definitely worth a visit. Here you will find fresh vegetables, fruit, cheeses, regional products, and other Norman specialties. A great opportunity to pick up something tasty for a picnic or an aperitif at the gîte.
We recommend parking at the Tourist Office. From there, all the sights are easily accessible on foot. If you drive into the city, you will pass the flea market Aux Trésors Oubliés Débarras , a nice stop for lovers of antiques and curiosities.
