The Grande Cascade and the Petite Cascade are just a ten-minute drive from Gîte La Cour de Haut. Take a varied walk past waterfalls, forests, and granite rocks, and conclude your visit with a beautiful view from the Chapelle Saint-Michel.

The waterfalls of Mortain

About a ten-minute drive from Gîte La Cour de Haut lie the Grande Cascade and the Petite Cascade , two waterfalls situated in a wooded area. At approximately 25 meters high, the Grande Cascade is the highest waterfall in Western France. From the parking lot, you can walk to the foot of the waterfall in just a few minutes.

From the Grande Cascade, follow a beautiful forest path that leads via the village of Neufbourg to the Petite Cascade . This walk takes about 15 minutes. From the Petite Cascade, you can continue following the stream to the Rocher de l'Aiguille , an impressive group of granite climbing rocks in the middle of the forest. The combination of the babbling water, the granite rocks, and the peaceful forest surroundings makes this a particularly beautiful walk.

If you have time left, also pay a visit to the Chapelle Saint-Michel . This small chapel is situated on top of a hill and is accessible both by car and on foot (a steep climb from the Petite Cascade). From the viewpoint, you have a panoramic view of Mortain and the rolling Norman bocage landscape. On a clear day, you can even see the bay of Mont Saint-Michel.

The waterfalls and the surrounding walking paths are freely accessible all year round. After a period of rain, the waterfalls carry the most water, while the forests provide pleasant cooling in the summer.
