Mont Saint-Michel

Mont Saint-Michel, one of France's most famous landmarks, is just a 45-minute drive from La Cour de Haut. Stroll through the medieval streets, visit the abbey, and enjoy the view over the vast bay. Thanks to the short distance, this is an ideal day trip from the gîte.

Mont Saint-Michel

Mont Saint-Michel is located about a 45-minute drive from La Cour de Haut and is a destination you really shouldn't miss during a stay in Normandy. The granite rock, topped by the famous medieval abbey, lies in the middle of a vast bay on the border of Normandy and Brittany.

Park in the official car park and take the free shuttle bus, or walk across the bridge to the island in about 40 minutes. Inside the ramparts, you will find narrow streets, small shops, cozy restaurants, and, of course, the impressive abbey. From the various viewpoints, you look out over the bay, where the landscape constantly changes due to the tides. At high tide, Mont Saint-Michel appears as an island, while at low tide, vast expanses of sand become visible.

Our tip is to go early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It is usually quieter then, and you can better experience the unique atmosphere of the island.
